REDISCOVERING THE PURPOSE & DIRECTION OF STYLED CHIC

With it being just a few months away from the 9 year anniversary of Styled Chic, I recently sat down to reflect on my time since creating this site. I remember back in 2012 while working my full-time day job, I needed something more. I had just obtained my associates degree in Business Administration. Although I had just transferred into the Fashion Merchandising program at my university, I found myself becoming increasingly frustrated in what was supposed to be my dream major. Most of the core classes of the program were offered on campus, in the middle of the day. Unfortunately, the scheduling conflict was the reason I ultimately decided to focus on my career in accounting with the state.

As the blogging world began to rise, I considered this form of media to be right up my alley. I had always excelled in written communication and aside from fashion, I had always dreamed of having a career in journalism— my ultimate goal was to become a magazine editor. I figured blogging would be my own online magazine. I’d cover style, hair, and beauty. So I began creating my first posts for Styledchic.net

I had really humble beginnings. My younger sister would take my photos outside of our apartment. I was attending beauty events to network and create content I thought my readers would enjoy. When I couldn’t hire a photographer, I took my own photos in random places around the city via self-timer + tripod. Sometimes in the freezing cold or uncomfortable heat—changing my clothes in the car. I actually broke ground over time and started getting free products + clothes, special invites to attend events, and finally started getting paid for my posts.

It’s been a really long road. I have had really big accomplishments like getting flown out to be the featured blogger for beauty events AND get paid for my time. I was selected to be apart of social media campaigns + received opportunities that gave me the ability to create another stream of income for myself.

I’ve also had a few challenges. The biggest one of all is not being ‘present’ or consistent with posting as I would like. Over the years I’ve felt that I haven’t been able to really pour into Styled Chic + social media the way I really want to show up online. Life always seemed to get in the way and affect my motivation to post or block my ability to create content at a high rate. I focused mainly on my career, my family, and achieving everyday real life goals. Things like home ownership, home projects/ upkeep + maintenance, decorating, and meeting my professional goals were all more of an important focus than posting. Thank God social media isn’t my main source of income, lol. I really don’t know how most manage with posting several times a day!

Ultimately, my goal has always just been to share. Share what I love. What I enjoy. What makes me feel inspired. How I live. Beauty and style finds that I’m excited about. Traveling to places that excite me and the smaller tid bits in between that have helped me. In sharing all of this, I hope it is enough to inspire you to show up as your best self and live a life that you can ultimately be proud of. Whether it’s being more intentional about your health by creating a nutritious meal or refining your individual style. The purpose behind Styled Chic has always been about living life in a way that encourages you to be your best self. This is the meaning behind the blog name ‘Styled Chic’. I put emphasis on Chic because it’s when something is stylish, when something is cool, when something is proper, or indescribably great.

I’d like to go about sharing content differently. Social media platforms like IG are a little more of an afterthought these days. If you’re looking to keep up with my content, I’d suggest subscribing to my email list. You’ll be notified of posts and It’s where I’ll be sharing more BTS.

After some thought and plans of action, I’m hoping you all continue on this journey with me and are inspired to simply #staychic!
